Hi,

I’m Najifa, a journalist based in Michigan, United States, originally from Bangladesh.

I specialize in environmental and climate journalism, a field that is both my academic expertise and personal lived experience. I earned my Master’s in Environmental and Natural Resources Journalism from the University of Montana, but my understanding of climate change began long before that—growing up in a country where floods, cyclones, and rising sea levels were an inescapable part of life.

Curious to explore climate challenges beyond my own, I expanded my reporting to cover wildfires, glacial lake runoff, snowpack loss, and drought—issues I had never encountered firsthand until I lived and worked in the rural Western U.S. Over the past five years, I have positioned myself as a journalist deeply engaged in climate solutions, the intersection of energy, health, agriculture, and water, and the pursuit of environmental justice.

I currently report on environmental and climate issues across the states. My long-term goal is to cover climate change from a global perspective, amplifying the voices of vulnerable communities and bridging the gap between the environmental crises of the Global South and the Global North.
